Session Members, Data Nodes & Data Sources

Inside a Synchronization Session, all participants are displayed as Session Members. Each Session Member can manage one or more Data Nodes, and each Data Node contains one or more Data Sources (directories or files).

Adding Data Nodes

When a new session is created, ByteSync automatically creates the first local Data Node for the Session Member. Additional local Data Nodes can be added at any time using the Add a Local Data Node button.

Example with two local Data Nodes for the same Session Member

Each Data Node is identified by a unique label (e.g. A, B, Aa, Ba) so that nodes can be distinguished during comparison and synchronization. These identifiers are automatically assigned by ByteSync.

Adding Data Sources

Inside each Data Node, you can add one or more Data Sources. A Data Source can be either:

  • a directory, added with the Add Directory button, or
  • a single file, added with the Add File button.

Each Data Source is listed with an identifier (e.g. A1, B1, Ba1) and its type (Directory or File) followed by its full path.

Multiple Members in a Session

When additional members join the session, their Data Nodes appear alongside the existing ones. This makes it possible to compare and synchronize data between different computers.

All Session Members and their Data Nodes are visible in the same window. During the following phases (Inventory, Comparison, Actions, Synchronization), these elements will be used to determine what data is different and how it should be synchronized.
