Creating or Joining a Synchronization Session

When you launch ByteSync, the first screen allows you to either create a new Synchronization Session or join an existing one. This step defines how members will connect to collaborate within the session.

Creating a New Synchronization Session

The first member to create a session becomes the First Session Member. This member is responsible for defining the initial session parameters and will later be the one who starts the data inventory.

To create a session, click on Start Synchronization Session. A Session ID and a Session Password will be automatically generated. These credentials can be shared with other participants who need to join.

Joining an Existing Synchronization Session

Other members can join by entering the Session ID and Session Password provided by the first member. After joining, their computer appears as a Session Member inside the Synchronization Window.

Once connected, each member can add Data Nodes and their associated Data Sources (directories or files). This step prepares the session for the inventory process.

Security Considerations

All session communications are protected with end-to-end encryption (E2EE).

The Trusted Clients mechanism ensures that only authorized devices can join a session. When a new client attempts to connect, other members are prompted to validate or reject the device.
